I Don't Get It

Or maybe I am truly an idiot. I came across the following in today's online SF Examiner. It would appear to be an abstract, but the full article does not come up no matter what I do. Or maybe this is the entire thing? If so, it is nice that somebody recognizes Jack Hirschman for the wonderful job he does but I wanted the author to expound on the subject. Any thoughts?
