Rumors on the DN Board

Hi all. I removed my original post and am replacing here with just a note to you all: please be kind. Thanks to everyone for your kind responses. Peace out and all that hippie jargon,
Mizzie

"Re: NRPS and Buddy Cage. You guys could not be more wrong in your SPECULATIONS. Please use the brains God gave you (assuming A. that you believe in a higher power of some sort and B. that God was generous enough to give you any, if A. is not applicable then accept that you are part of the universal plan and you really should think before you speak. I am sure you have no personal knowledge of Buddy's actions and you should restrict yourself to musical opinions, valid or invalid as the case may be, and cease propagating personal aspersions.) Most of you do not know that Buddy recently acquired a new steel, Japanese made, which had proven to be quite a challenge. Now that is no excuse for a lack of professionalism but it does explain a few things. I suggested to Buddy that he bring both of his instruments along until he was comfortable with the new one but he said that was not feasible. A valid criticism at this point would be, "Buddy shouldn't use public performance as an experimental learning tool."

Buddy is also 65 years old and a grandfather. I hope you all are able to keep the pace he has been running when you reach that age, should you be lucky enough to do so.""

Well Said Mizsheley...i didnt want to see you sell your response to the philzoners short....
Peppermint Daddy is a friend of mine, and i dont think he intended to insult Buddy by his post as much as let the DN fans hear about what was being said on another discussion board. I think a small review or shout out about the NRPS shows is always welcome on the nelsonband site, as long as something said is relevant to David. I personallly love anything David Nelson does musically, and see the nelsonband site as a celebration of all things David Nelson. The comments about Buddy would not perhaps really be relavant on the Nelsonband site tho. I dont think Peppermint Daddy deserves a spanking or anything, i think he was just the bearer of unwanted tidings, and when i read his post i dont hear him accusing Buddy of anything, just referring to what is being said elsewhere. He was not at the show, and did not offer any opinions about it. I hope in this case you can all forgive the messenger for bearing unwanted tidings, i am sure he realized he loosened the tigers fury with his post....I bet he is quaking in his boots at this point!

Julie, my point was that he mentioned the message at all - thereby fueling the fire. He could have written privately to any number of people connected to the band but he chose to take that message public so I think I have to disagree with you on this. I put this on my blog because I want people to speak up in outrage against that kind of nonsense, not because I want to add credence to the rumors.

agree to disagree is fine by me, p.daddy wanted to lively up the place (nelsonband board), and boy did he!! I dont think the "rumor" deserved to be taken seriously enough to warrant trying to take it to anyone connected with the band directly...as i read his post, his point was to connect with the current tour David has been on, and challenge the nelsonband discussion bored to comment on the shows. Any comment on nelsonband.com would be a beter source for information then the philzone...and seriously who besides you would any of us commoners have to take our band related concerns to anyway? I have myself had to comment publicly on several occassions in regard to things I could not resolve by trying to contact someone thru official channels. I think he accomplished his mission admirably, and i am only sorry that he did it at the expense of your blood pressure!

He did it at the expense of my blood pressure as well, julie. I'm with Michelle: rumour is a deadly little tool, as destructive a kind of mischief as the human tongue can provide.

The idea of "livelying up the board" or whatever by the use of an inane rumour strikes me as juvenile, ill-conceived, and pretty damned insulting to one of the hardest-working and most solidly professional musicians out there.

Especially when those people making the comments weren't even there! Those guys traveled in the Columbia Gorge from Hood River in less than desirable conditions....it was snowing, icy & cold. They put on one hell of a show in HR & left in the wee hours of the morning for Portland. And then Buddy was gracious enough to give a LONG extended interview to the public radio station from 12 until about 2. Sound check happened around 5. Good grief! I don't know how they do it. I was tired, and I'm not 65. I get the joy of hearing the wonderful sounds coming from EVERY member of that band. OK, I had to put my 2 cents in. I'm off to listen to my new CDs, and bask in the afterglow of a wonderful weekend with the best musicians on earth. Sheree
