Here I Am

I have been sitting at the computer for almost two hours... I think my cyber-hiatus has officially come to an end! I just wish I could see well enough to type for any appreciable length of time.

Where to start? This has been a week of milestones - I was finally able to eat some solid food (it has been really hard to do so without choking because of the probable scar tissue (from the radiation) in my throat. In addition to food, I made it out into the real world to see Christopher Felver's new film about Lawrence Ferlinghetti (more about that below). And now here I am at the keyboard... there is a God after all.

OK, the film. I thought it was disappointing in so many ways. First of all, while the director pointed out some of Mr. Ferlinghetti's myriad accomplishments in the world of art and literature, it was more of a montage, skimming over the salient points and almost completely discounting Mr. Ferlinghetti's paintings. In addition, the depiction of Mr. Ferlinghetti reading his poetry is truncated time after time, showing only brief portions of the poems. This filmmaker has unparalleled access to Mr. Ferlinghetti but fails to take advantage of it, glossing over Mr. F's long and varied careers. Perhaps the most interesting portion of the evening was the sight of Wavy Gravy, sitting in the front row, minus his clown costume, rainbow hair and fish.

And now, to the cancer. I do not want to jinx anything - my baseline scan appointment is May 22, but I am feeling better with every passing day and Dr. Kramer thinks I am doing really well. Especially since my most recent trip to the hospital in April when I was suffering from malnutrition. Did I mention the bonus to being ill was that I could not eat at all and dropped a LOT of weight in the past few months (OK, about 70 pounds). Thank God I had it to lose or my sister would be posting my epitaph here.
