RIP GARY HAROVER

No mention of his time with the New Riders of the Purple Sage but oh, well...

OBITUARIES: Gary G. Harover

July 13, 1950-Oct. 13, 2008

PENDLETON - Gary G. Harover, 58, a longtime resident of Pendleton, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in the Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. Viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 in the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton.

Mr. Harover was born July 13, 1950, in Pendleton to Eugene E. Harover and Beulah Moody. He was raised and educated in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School. While in high school he was active in basketball and football, and played in the East-West Shrine Game.

After graduation he attended college for time, and then had worked in Austin, Texas, at the Manor Downs Horse Race Track. He also worked and traveled with the Grateful Dead. He helped to build many potato sheds in the Hermiston area, and for the last 13 years he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a welder.

He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.

Mr. Harover is survived by his mother, Beulah Harover, and brother Joe Harover, both of Pendleton.

He was preceded in his death by his father, Eugene.

RIP Gary. That huge Rock n Roll Band in the Sky now has another excellent roadie to share the job with Hagen, Ramrod, Jackson and..well..of course Sonny Heard for drama.

WOW! i didn't even know Gary had passed. He was my Dad's first cousin. i hadn't seen Gary since the mid 60s but i met David Nelson when i finagled my way back stage at a NRPS in 1975 concert by dropping Gary's name. i had seen Gary listed as part of the crew on the Panama Red album cover. a year or so later i snuck into a hall where NRPS was going to be playing later and when i saw David i approached him and he gave me his backstage pass with explicit instructions NOT to mention my last name to Spencer Dryden.

sorry to learn Gary is gone, he was only a few years older than me.
